Passing Down Love

Twelve years ago, Chris and I were living in Cedar City, working, and having fun as newlyweds..life was wonderful!

On morning, Chris and I were getting ready to leave for work. Chris worked for a company called  Metalcraft and I worked for a metal roof company called Fabral. Chris was leaving before me that morning, and I couldn't bare the thought of him leaving (like I said, we were newlyweds.) So, as he was leaving I flipped the porch lights on and off to let him know one more time that I loved him. He then, flipped his headlights on and off to show me the same.

This little tradition has stuck with us through the years...no matter where we have lived, the lights have flickered. Cedar, Springville, and now....

Currently, Chris leaves for work at 6:20, and if you drive by our house at that time of morning, you will see our house lights flicker....it is our last little "goodbye, I love you." Even after all these years, I can't stand to see Chris leave, and can't wait for him to return.

The other morning, something happened that touched my heart, and I realized I was teaching Riley a little something about love and I didn't even know it. As Riley and I were sitting on the steps waiting for Chris to pull out of the driveway, Riley simply said, "can I do the light thing today?" I did...and I realized at that moment I was passing down love.

I know corny, but I love Chris....for some reason.

  3. That is so sweet! I love that idea. Mark and I have always done the sign for "I love you" when he leaves. I look out the window as he drives by we sign it to each other. Love is such an amazing thing and what it does to a person. Thank you for your wonderful comments on my blog. You are such an amazing person and friend. LOVE YA :)
