Halloween 2008

Well, Halloween has come and gone, and I am sad. I love the fall season and the fun stuff that goes along with it. I love the leaves falling to the ground, the crisp chill in the air, the smell of houses cooking yummy fall foods, and mostly getting together with family and friends.

This year for Halloween Riley finally decided to go as a sheep dog. She couldn't decide between being a mermaid, mouse, or a pumpkin...and finally we decided on the sheep dog. The costume was so darn cute, I wish she could stay this young forever so I could dress her up in the "cute" costumes the rest of her life, but I know my opinion will soon not matter.

Halloween was a busy day this year! The day started out busy and ended busy, and boy did we crash when the day was over! Riley got to wear her costume to school, and boy was she excited for that! Imagine this big fluff of a dog getting on the bus...cute. Then, I was off to meet Riley at her school to help with the class Halloween party. I am the Kindergarten photographer, and a room mother at the same time, and I am always busy with stuff for her class.

The party was a great success, and the Halloween parade (kids go through the school showing off their costumes) was great. However, I had invited Becky and her family over for our traditional pumpkin bread bowl and soup dinner (clam chowder, chilli, or any kind of yummy soup). I was running late, as usual, and I got the clam chowder finished just as our guests arrived! Whew. We ate and had a great time.

Riley and Olivia went trick-or-treating, and it started to rain a bit, but not too bad. We went all over the neighborhood and the girls got all kinds of goodies. We went to some family and friends houses, and about 8:30 Chris and I were ready for home!

Riley did the annual look at the candy and separate chocolates from suckers bit. Then, it was off to bed. We really enjoyed this Halloween, it gets funner the older Riley gets. We cannot wait until we have more children to share this time of year with.

We hope all of you had a great holiday, can't wait for Thanksgiving!

Here are some pics of the season: Riley at a local pumpkin farm/maze, and Halloween night:

Note: Notice the really big pumpkin Riley is sitting on? Our good friends Angela and Jake brought this giant over late one night, and Riley noticed it on the porch and said, "Mom the great pumpkin left a pumpkin on our porch!" I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth, so I let her sleep with the magic of childhood one more night. The next morning I was babysitting a little girl for a friend and I happen to overhear this sweet, innoccent conversation between a 3 and 5-year-old.

"Leah, do you see that pumpkin?"

"Uh-huh!"

"The Great Pumpkin brought it to my house!"

"ooooh."

"It fell out of the sky and landed on my porch."

I love the magic. Needless to say, I did tell Riley that the pumpkin was from Angela, but I let her dream just a bit longer. How could I take that away?

  1. Riley looks so cute! Amy was telling me about her costume and how cute she looked. I can't wait to have kids to take trick or treating.
