Looking for advice?

Please Help! I know that there has to be a mom (or dad) who can help me!

Yesterday, while driving in the car, I actually felt as though hitting my head against the window in the car would hurt less than having to deal with my 5-year-old! You have to understand, right? What or how do I disipline for repeated asking, even after I have said "no!" a hundred times? Also, what kind of punishment can I give, that won't end up punishing me in the long run?

I have tried ignoring, taking things away, time outs, and even yelling (probably more than I should have)....she just keeps asking over and over and over and over again, or arguing!

For example, I can ask Riley to go pick up her toys, and her response will be, "but I am playing with them." However, she had not been playing with them for over an hour, so I reply, "you have not been playing with them, please, go put them away!"  You know how it goes...

"But mom, the pony needs to stay out here because it is cold in my room."

"No, do you want me to take the toys, so they can become mine?"

The tears begin. "You are not being nice, you make me sad."

"That is my job, go put them away."

"But, my teacher said that Jacob cannot play in the wood chips because he will fall and get dirty."

"What...what does that have to do with anything!"

And it goes on like this.....forever....or until I threaten to throw the toy away. Why does it have to come to this? Why or what am I doing wrong? Ahh! It makes me want to pull my hair out!

So, my question is....What kind of consequence can I have for Riley when she does not listen to my first request of something, or she does not listen to my first answer to something, without the punishment punishing me? Maybe, I am hopeless...or does this happen to everyone? I hope, I don't want to be the only crazy  (bald, from pulling my hair out) mom out there! Ha.

  2. I know the feeling very well grace is very bad at that. Yesturday she was bad and would not listen so we took trick or treating away until she has a better attitude you think riley is bad you should see grace she is bad. If grace does not pick up her toys we will take them away or we will thorw them away so she will pick them up she knows the rules in our house. She does go in time out alot. we take all privliges away from her even playing with her friend any snacks sometimes it does not work but for the most part it does. good luck. I will be happy to run away with you and becky.
