Riley is independent, but still needs her mommy. Yeah! Today, after getting my big Kindergartner off to school and on the bus. I was getting myself situated for the day, when I got the call. The caller ID read "Lehi Elementary." My first thought was of when I was a kid and always falling or getting myself hurt. What could Riley have done now; and was she OK?
The voice on the other end was sweet and she kindly stated, "Riley has locked herself in the bathroom and will not come out. We think she may have had an accident." "Oh, no," I thought to myself. "Can you come and help us get her out? Maybe you should bring some change of clothes," the nice lady said. "Sure, I will be there in a minute," I stated simply.
So, I get to school with the change of clothing, and they show me to the bathroom where the first thing I see are two tennis shoes with pants down around the ankles, and two big brown eyes peeking through the crack in the door. How cute, I thought.
A teacher explains to me that when they got off the bus, Riley had to use the bathroom, but we just couldn't make it in time (later Riley tells me, "I thought I had to wait until the bell rings.") However, the teacher continued telling me that they could not get her out, and she has been in there for about a half hour, waiting for me. Nothing makes you feel more needed than a little person in trouble. I cleaned her up, and promptly took her to her classroom, nobody the wiser of the accident.
Oh how I love that little girl, and I am grateful for the little moments that she reminds me that I am still her mommy. Needless to say, we are working on hurrying to the potty, and not locking ourselves in bathrooms.
P.S. Don't tell her I wrote this little story.....it could scar her forever. Ha. Also, the picture is of Riley on her birthday with her new skates.
that is sad she was scared i understand we all get that way even as adult but it was cute to know she was wating for her mom. thoes moments we cherise forever.
