Riley and I were visiting with my sister, whom I had not seen in about 3 weeks. Riley is smart. She knows mom will not flip out and yell in public, so, she pushes....oh she pushes the limit. I am sure some of you understand. So, she persisted in not listening to me. I simply told her to come over and talk to me. "NO," she yells. That was it! I simply took her out to the car, and we had a time out. I am not kidding...she cried for about 30-40 minutes. Usually, Riley is very calm, and is a pretty good kid, but when she gets on one....look out.
I tried everything. Reasoning. Pleading. The silent treatment. Threats. Finally, it came to me...."Do you want this bear? Then, you need to be quiet!" The crying increased. I am telling the truth when I think something picked my arm up, grabbed the cute helpless bear, and chucked the beanie out the window (landing at least 3 parking spots away). I felt better. Needless to say, I did not think this through....my ears are still ringing. Maybe next time, I will lock myself, in the car for a time out.
P.S. No Animals were harmed in this tantrum. Only my pride.
P.S.S. I would be ungrateful if I did not express my thanks to those serving our country today. May the Lord be with our troops at this time of war, as well as, their loved ones. I am thankful for my freedom, and for those who gave their lives just so I can live in this great land. Thank you.
I actually laughed out loud! Thanks for the morning laugh.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog - I do not respond very much - but I love reading it!! You are so funny - you should think about being a writer - who knows maybe you are. Looks like you are choosing your battles wisley - one thing I can never handle is when my children take advantage of me when we are around other people - this too is one of my battles! They keep trying even when they are older - so embarassing! So did you go back and get the bear? Don't you dare be the one who sits for a time out!!!
