Riley the Independent!

Here is my baby, well, was my baby. She just turned 5 on the 27th of August. She started Kindergarten just 2 days prior to that. To say the least, I am a little sad; not sad that she is growing into a wonderful little girl, but sad that her baby stage is officially over.
Riley is such a smart girl. She is the youngest in her class and she is keeping up with the almost 6-year-olds. She can count to 100, with a little help sometimes needed. She knows her address, phone number, and can write and spell (even sign language) her whole name. She has almost accomplished the tying of the shoes bit, but we are working on that.
Riley loves school, her favorite part being the ride on the school bus. Imagine a 4-year-old looking into her mom's eyes saying, "are you gonna cry mom?" The bus is so big. How could I not cry. She told me that if I feel too sad I could fit under the table in her classroom tommorrow; maybe, don't give me any ideas! My favorite part of the day is watching her run off the bus into my arms. She came back to me!
Well, I hope that me going on, and on, about Riley is not too boring for all of you, but I am feeling a little proud of my independent, not baby, little girl. I hope she never forgets me. Ha.

  1. Running to your arms?? That image makes my heart soar. Olivia ran to my mom like that in the airport last time while calling Nana, Nana. There were tears from strangers around us. Great to see your blog!

  2. Brook,

I know exactly how you feel. Mckelle, my "baby" turned 17 on August 26th and started her senior year in high school just the day before. Time just seems to fly by after they start school. Cherish those "running into your arms moments". They grow up so fast, and you soon learn that you take a back seat to their friends..and boys!!! Riley is just beautiful.
